Deci Turcia cok guzel.

The most beloved sport of all times :tourism
Or why choose Turkey as a travel destination

Seen through the eyes of the common traveler , there are several kinds of Turkey: I may say there is a traditional Turkey, a touristic Turkey, ready to show you what is the most beautiful, the most special in this country, emphasising its traditions, the cultural inheritance, and an European Turkey, full of people from abroad, coming every year to fill out the beaches and the bars, a Turkey tailored to please the majority of the Europeans.
My trip took me to Ankara, Bezpayari, Ayaş   and the surrounding areas, as part of an European program that I applied for and I got accepted.
This part of Turkey is a sequence of  stony mountains, hothouses, lots of poppies and impressive apartment buildings that appeared almost overnight , in the most unexpected places.
Ankara is a magnificent city, bordered by brand new neighbourhoods, with colourful buildings, whole neighbourhoods of villas, all looking wonderfully alike, amazing parks, tens of shopping centres and luxury office buildings, among which the hundreds of mosques with their beautifully coloured minarets seem to be lost .
I left Ayaş  İçmece Spa (where we were staying) one morning for Ankara, and I had the joy of being able to admire, throughout the whole trip, an absolutely sensational landscape, with empty hills, tall buildings here and there, lots of poppies, statues and weathered out mountains , with their strange and interesting shapes.
The first stop in Ankara was the Atatürk Mausoleum, an incredible place, that impressed me a lot. I have never seen such a clean and well guarded place before, and, at the same time, someone more worshipped and loved as Ataturk.
The Mausoleum gives you the feeling that you are in the ancient Greece, looking at a freshly built Parthenon. The whole complex is a tribute to Atatürk and his reforms, with whole halls that recreate his great battles and reforms, with exhibitions including the hundreds of luxury gifts received from presidents, kings, padishahs etc. I also enjoyed our guide's the English introduction . His badge told us that his name was Huseyin Durmuş.
There is a portrait of Atatürk  in every home, every hospital, in the stores and on all coins; airports, boulevards, parks , all are named for him and his portrait can be found everywhere. And for good reason if we are only to mention that him, Atatürk , is the one who introduced the Latin alphabet and granted rights to women and, by simply trying to imagine a Turkey without these two great reforms, we can understand why even the most modern or the  youngest Turkish people call him their hero.
There were tens of coaches full of tourists and hundreds of children come to visit the mausoleum; I was able to capture lots if images that I love, some of which could be seen on my Facebook  page.
Another trip that delighted my eyes and my soul was the one to Baypazari, the beautiful treasure of Ankara, inherited from the Ottoman Empire. Baypazari is worth seeing for its beauty, the stone paved streets smelling of wood, the mansions, the interesting stories everyone shares and are worth listening to, their special food that have to be tried. Baypazari is a picturesque place  95 km North west from the capital city of Ankara. Close to Baypazari, which looks like is purposely hidden beyond a deserted valley - as it seems to someone raised in a  place with luxuriant vegetation like me  - the unique beauty of the area is catching anyone's eyes.Baypazari, throughout its history, happily went through the Hittite, Phrygian and Byzantine periods , was, later on, the host of the Anatolian selgiuchizes and the ottomans, thus having a rich historical past; this trove of history being beautifully reflected in the exhibitions hosted by the museums in the area.
As a  whole, it looks  like a veritable natural fortress, with the numerous houses raised between the two creeks through the deserted valley that I mentioned before, with beautifully whitewashed houses. On the narrow streets, a tourist's eye is caught by the coppersmiths and their beautifully crafted kettles, silversmiths, the shops selling the local specialty of kurusu or products that w e got used to call organic, locally grown. In the bazaar, one can find local products including carrots and various vegetables. We learned that the sandy areas around Baypazari produce 60% of Turkey's  carrot crops , this area being the country's carrots store place. Carrots are used to prepare anything: ice cream, juice, locum, , keşkül and even soap.
It is a known thing: when in Turkey, one has to surrender to the local gourmet temptations: locum, dates, figs, apricots, almonds and so much more.  At any street corner one can find shops selling these. It is worth trying the hummus, ayran, vegetables, meat and, especially, the sweets. Let's not forget their ice cream considered by many even better than the Italian gelato.
We were told that all sorts of accommodation are available , in all price ranges; the Turkish people are taking pride in their traditions and history and are trying their best to show the most beautiful thins. One interesting thing to mention is that, although they are rebuilding their country enthusiastically , they manage at the same time to preserve unaltered their history, the nature and the traditional beauty. It is a very friendly country (if we are to leave aside the latest political events) that offers all the modern life facilities but is , at the same time, traditional enough to satisfy the taste and curiosity of the tourists that take interest in this.According to the statistics, the country is among the top 10 worldwide touristic destinations and their cuisine, through its diversity (and I liked it a lot) among the top 5 worldwide; therefore it is not surprising that the country attracts over 23 million tourists every year.
Back to Ayaş - our lodging place- a neighbourhood well known for its mulberry trees and the tasty tomatoes as well as for the thermal springs which are beneficial both for internal use as well as for hydrotherapy. Here, we spent our days attending courses and meetings at the city's community centre, we also went on a  boat trip on the Sariyar Lake in the city of Nallihan, retracing the steps of the past Çayirhan civilisations, trip offered and sponsored by the local mayor, Mr. Ömer Bayarak, we exchanged ideas but we also went shopping (being so many ladies from  so many countries, we found a common language: shopping).
Everyone we met was open, interested and agreeable, friendly and kind, from the deputy Manager of the Ayaş Cutural centre, Mehmet Emin Bektaş, the  wonderful Özge Koç Temuçin, to the Atila Atalay, the Centre Manager, as well as the regional governor, the kaimacam Hasan Balci   and the city mayor, Ali Başkaraağaç, who is planning to run for Ankara mayor in the next elections, and, from what I understood, has  chances, and, last but not least, Mustafa Doğan, the person in charge with the cultural activities in the region (similar to a councilor).
Obviously, I could not ignore our magazine's specialty and I had to participate in a volley game between two mixed teams (boys and girls) that took place at the Ayaş sports centre where I could see an example of how temperamental the Turkish people can be although it was a frendly game. The gallery included the students of the teachers playing, there were drums, cheers, songs, scandings, specially written slogans, poise, cheerfullness, life; by our delight, the team that won was the one of the deputy manager Mehmet Bektaş, one of the coordinators of the program we were part of.
And because I am also interested in the philologic field , aside from sound alike words we learned about in school, such as : sarma, baclava, salcâm, ceai, alergie,poşetă, machiaj, zarzăre, vişine, the next ones we learned easliy, becasue we were hearing them very often, were cok seviyorum" şi cok guzel and many others whe will not menton here for lack of space. The organizers chose to offer us T-shirts as gifts, printed wth our names and  the name of our country... so that, during a short trip to the Ankara bazaar I often heard people saying my name and my country's name, only after, previously, they  mentioned the names of Lucescu, Hagi and Popescu (maybe they knew I am writing for a sports magazine?).
If I were to draw a conclusion, I can say that the Turkish people are very friendly and sociable people by nature therefore I recommend you to not miss the opportunity to visit their country (if you did not do it already); you will definitely be left with a longlasting pleasant feeling . Let me give you a tip: try to socialize with them, the Turkish people love dialogue and they are curious by natre, their questions will open the way to dialogue and friendships are born easily; in any case they have lots of common sense. I have to admit that some physycal features inherited from my ancestor, Stephen the Great, helped a bit.
In any case, anywhere in Turkey you can find a person, a monument or a feeling to reveal a special world; me, i met such places and people.
   Therefore Turcia cok guzel.
